Ear Candling

A non-invasive treatment used to relieve conditions in the head and ear area, such as sinus problems, compacted earwax, tinnitus, snoring, headaches and to relieve stress. It’s also great for frequent flyers and scuba divers.

During the procedure, softer waxes and toxins will be drawn out of the ear, oxidized and turned into vapours. It can be very effective in removing blockages from the ear canal and sinus passages and is much safer than syringing or using cotton tips.

Fitness Programs

Whether it be to lose weight, tone up, increase strength or improve performance, a tailor made exercise program can be designed to help you meet your goals. Personal training and corporate fitness sessions are also offered at reasonable rates.

Gene Testing

This new and sophisticated technique is also known as DNA-based testing, which identifies changes in chromosomes, genes and/or proteins. It can be used to test for genetic conditions or to help determine a person’s chance of developing or passing on a genetic disorder.

Healthy Eating

Eating plans can be developed to suit the individuals eating habits, time restraints, taste, health conditions and goals.

Herbal Medicines

It’s possible to prevent and treat disease and promote health with the use of medicinal herbs, which are manufactured exclusively from plants. Herbal medicine is extremely effective and allows the practitioner to create a blend to suit the individual. Therefore, you can treat more than one ailment with the one blend. Or you may use different actions to treat the one ailment more efficiently.

It is the oldest and most widely used system of medicine in the world today. Your naturopath is qualified to advise you of any interactions between your natural medicines and any prescription drugs; or whether or not herbs are safe during pregnancy, lactation or if there are any other cautions, interactions or contra-indications.

Iris Analysis

Iris analysis or Iridology is the science of analysing the structure, texture and colour of the many thousands of nerve fibres, microscopic blood vessels, lymphatic system, muscles and other tissue which make up the iris, sclera and pupil of the eye. With successful interpretation, pathological, structural, functional, inherited and emotional disturbances can be determined within the body.

How Does it Work?
Irises are an extension of the brain. All body tissue is electronically connected to the brain via the nervous system. When any body tissue relays information to the brain, a stimulus relays this information from the brain out to the irises and other eye tissue. This allows body tissue to be viewed through the irises.

Teas

It is possible to prevent and treat disease and promote health with the use of Green or Herbal Teas, which are manufactured exclusively from plants.

Teas are a handy way to incorporate herbal medicine into a treatment protocol. As they can be blended to suit the individual, you can treat more than one ailment with the one blend, or alternatively, you may use different actions to treat the one ailment more efficiently.

Naturopathy

Naturopathy integrates conventional health sciences, with a range of herbs, nutritional supplements, teas, creams and flower essences to treat a person as a whole. This is achieved by assessing all aspects of the individual’s health, including their physical, mental and emotional state.

Naturopathy acknowledges the importance of identifying the underlying causes and triggers which may be inhibiting further improvement of an individuals’ overall health status.

Nutritional Medicine

Nutritional supplements may be included in the treatment protocol to alleviate deficiencies and facilitate the healing journey. The 4 year Naturopathy degree includes all the subjects in the 3 year Nutrition degree, PLUS herbal medicine, flower essences, massage, aromatherapy and more advanced subjects.

Most of the supplements dispensed at Naturoway are strictly practitioner/prescription only supplements. Therefore, only practitioners with at least four years of university training in complementary medicine are able to prescribe these effective, quality products. Our products are sourced from the leading manufacturers in Australia and overseas and all are registered and comply with the high standards of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Naturoway is qualified to advise you of any interactions between your natural medicines and any prescription drugs; or whether or not herbs are safe during pregnancy, lactation or if there are any other cautions, interactions or contra-indications. There have been extensive scientific based studies to ensure the safety and efficacy in disease treatment of these practitioner/prescription only products. Obviously, the same cannot be said for the over the counter products, which not only have lower doses, but are not subjected to the stringent processes of efficacy as the practitioner/prescription only products are.

Sports Recovery

Supplements and healthy eating diet plans are tailored to suit the individual. Whether to lose or gain weight, improve immunity, enhance sports performance or aid in sports or injury recovery.

Anti Aging

Prevention is better than cure! Naturopaths believe that it is better to prevent illness, rather than cure it. Why not slow down the ageing process, regain your sex drive and let us help you maintain a healthy weight?

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to improve your health and vitality.

Candida/Thrush

This yeast/fungi is responsible for thrush infections, which can lead to a cascade of symptoms. These include gas, bloating, brain fog, digestive disorders, fatigue, headaches, muscle weakness, to name just a few. It can also reduce your absorption of nutrients, which can then lead to numerous other health conditions such as depression.

Factors that contribute to this bowel flora disturbance include a high intake of sugar or yeast (e.g. beer, bread, soft drink, lollies etc), antibiotic and oral contraceptive pill use, stress, smoking and illness.

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to improve your health and vitality.

Pain Relief

Pain can be debilitating, so people often use medication to relieve the pain. These medications often have undesirable adverse effects that you may not be aware of, including gastrointestinal upset. They may also be putting you at risk of heart, kidney, liver, respiratory and female fertility problems.

Why not use more natural alternatives to avoid the nasty side effects of medication, and which often have other beneficial effects? For example, garlic reduces inflammation, while also boosting immunity, slowing the ageing process and fighting cancer. It is also high in vitamins and minerals.

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to find a natural alternative to alleviate the pain.

Sexual Health

Sexual health is important for both young and old. A simple hormonal or neurotransmitter imbalance can deprive some people of enjoying this significant aspect of their personal lives. Some sexual health problems include lack of libido/desire, pain during sex, impotence, premature ejaculation or difficulty maintaining an erection.

Sexually transmitted diseases can also get in the way of a healthy sex life. Did you know that an amino acid imbalance can increase the frequency of genital herpes outbreaks?

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to improve your sexual health and wellbeing.

Skin Disorders

Common conditions include eczema, acne, psoriasis and rosacea and can often be inflamed, itchy and painful. They can also affect a person’s sleep quality, leave scarring and often reduce a person’s self-esteem. There may be many factors involved; including poor diet, stress, hormonal imbalance and the body’s inability to eliminate toxins effectively through its other organs. Roacutane and steroidal creams are often prescribed, which in some cases cause severe adverse effects. These are not your only options!

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to improve your health and stop the suffering.

Stress and Anxiety

Acute stress can be beneficial, if we want to run from an attacker, however chronic stress can negatively affect every aspect of our life. We must allow our bodies to rest, recover and repair, otherwise it can progress to other health conditions. Some symptoms include muscle tension, racing thoughts, constant worrying, poor memory, feeling overwhelmed, sighing, chest pains/heart palpitations, irritability, lack of sex drive and nausea. It is commonly linked with depression, adrenal fatigue/exhaustion, weight loss or weight gain around the stomach.

The balance between the stressors in your life and the ability to deal with them, can determine your mental health. Diet, lifestyle, neurotransmitter or hormonal imbalances can all be causative factors.

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to identify the cause and tailor a treatment.

Sleep Disturbances

Insufficient amounts of sleep can not only leave you feeling tired throughout the day, but can also deprive your body of undergoing repair and detoxification processes while you sleep. Sleep and stress hormones can often become imbalanced, keeping you awake at night. A melatonin deficiency or cortisol excess can leave you wide awake, even when you’re exhausted. A simple saliva test can investigate if this is the case for you.

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to improve your sleep quality, energy and vitality.

Immune System and Allergies

Sick of feeling tired and tired of feeling sick?
Your immune system’s prime function is to protect you against cold and flus, allergies and the development of cancer. Your immune system needs support especially if ANY of the statements below apply to you:

  • I catch colds easily
  • I get more than two colds per year
  • I suffer from chronic infection
  • I regularly suffer from hay fever, eczema and allergies
  • I get frequent cold sores and genital herpes
  • My lymph glands are sore and swollen at times
  • I have cancer, or have had it in the past
  • I have HIV or AIDS
Let us enhance your immunity and build up your resistance to disease and cancer.

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to increase your resistance to disease and cancer.

Infertility

Many variables must align precisely for conception to occur and the ability to maintain a pregnancy for 9 months. Common contributing factors include lack of ovulation, sperm deficiency or lack of motility, stress, increased age and structural problems. Conditions that are often associated with infertility include polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease and uterine fibroids. Did you know that a simple detox can increase your chances of falling pregnant?

Preconception Care:
  • Increase the likelihood that you will have a healthy conception, pregnancy, birth and baby.
  • Why not take responsibility for your health and reduce the risk of miscarriage, premature birth or abnormality?
  • Preconception care can also be used as an adjunct therapy to improve the success rate of IVF.

Pregnancy:
  • It is obviously important to maintain optimal nutrient levels for the health of yourself and your baby.
  • Did you know that fish oil is beneficial for the development of the baby? It contributes to a healthy immune system and in the third trimester, it assists with brain and eye development.
  • Give your child the best head start!

Postnatal Care:
  • The importance of postnatal care is often unappreciated. Post birth recovery, lactation and mental health are all significant factors to consider after the birth of a baby.
  • Mothers commonly visit our clinic with postnatal depression, or with a complaint that they’ve ‘never felt quite right since the birth of their baby’. This is often because the baby has ‘zapped’ the mother of her nutrients or that she has had too many sleepless or stressful nights, contributing to a hormonal imbalance.
  • Antidepressants are not the only treatment available. Find and treat the cause so you can be at your optimal health for your family.

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to support your reproductive system for optimal pre, during and post pregnancy care.

Sports Nutrition

Supplements and healthy eating diet plans are tailored to suit the individual. Whether to lose or gain weight, improve immunity, enhance sports performance or aid in sports or injury recovery.

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to find out what you need to know.

Wellness Diets

Tired of getting sick, feeling sluggish or being overweight? Why not take a proactive approach and eat your way to better health? With so many fad diets and myths out there, why not let us educate you in a healthy diet that suits you?

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to improve your health, energy and vitality.

Weight Management

Naturoway’s slogan is ‘weight loss the natural way’! It’s how the Naturoway name originated. Ever wondered why the weight drops off for some people on a high protein diet and not for others? Or why the other guys in the gym seem to bulk up a lot easier than you do? Or why a fad diet works for a little while, then your metabolism seems to slow down? ake the first step towards losing those excess kilos or building muscle now!!

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to tailor a weight loss/gain program tailored to suit you.

Tissue Repair and Healing

Had an operation or recovering from an injury? Let us assist in speeding up the process. Did you know that protein and vitamin C play a role in the formation of collagen, the most important protein of connective tissue?

Make an appointment online or call 0422 684 052 to speed up the healing process.

Neurotransmitter Profile

This urine test assesses 6 of your neurotransmitter levels. These include your two inhibitory neurotransmitters, Serotonin and GABA, as well as your excitatory neurotransmitters, dopamine, noradrenalin, adrenalin and glutamate.

Some common signs and symptoms of these neurotransmitter imbalances include:

Neurotransmitter Excess Deficiency
Cortisol Fatigue
Inflammation and Allergies
Anxiety
Poor Sleep
Insulin Resistance
Immune Suppression
Fatigue
Inflammation and Allergies
Dopamine Developmental Problems
Schizophrenia
Psychosis

Hyperactivity
Premenstrual Syndrome
Sleep Issues
Depression

The inhibitory NT’s calm you down and the excitatory ones speed you up and give you energy. Serotonin and GABA work synergistically, so if one is low, the other tends to compensate and also becomes low with time.

If you are constantly excited and go, go, go for a long period of time, your adrenals become depleted and your adrenalin and noradrenalin levels can decrease. As you can see from the test results below, several can be low at the same time, making it hard to determine the exact problem(s) without proper testing. For this client, a simple antidepressant that purely works on a person’s serotonin levels, wouldn’t have improved their condition, because it wasn’t actually their serotonin that was low.

Glutamine, which is an amino acid found in protein; is either converted to GABA (inhibitory) or glutamate (excitatory). If you don’t have optimal levels of the co-factors to create the GABA conversion, then it will create glutamate instead. Remember to also fill out the questionnaire provided with the test kit, because this allows the pathology lab to include more accurate analysis in the report that will be returned with the results.

Hormone Profile

Hormones play a fundamental role in our body to regulate each process and maintain our health and vitality.

When there is an imbalance, you may experience infertility, premenstrual syndrome/tension (aka PMS or PMT), menopause, low libido, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, mood swings, hot flushes, painful or irregular periods, increased appetite, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, fibroids, breast lumps, poor sleep patterns or chronic fatigue.

This hormonal disruption can also affect your neurotransmitter levels, leading to mood disturbances.

Blood hormone tests assess the total levels in the body, however saliva tests assess the bio-available hormone levels within the tissues of your body.

The saliva test not only informs you of your progesterone and testosterone levels, but also shows the 3 different types of oestrogens (Oestrone, Oestradiol and Oestriol). Some of these are beneficial and cancer preventative, whereas high levels of oestrone give you an increased risk of breast cancer, uterine cancer, breast lumps, endometriosis and fibroids.

DHEA levels can also be assessed, which is the most abundant hormone within the body. It is produced by the adrenal glands, ovaries and testes and has been found to slow ageing, exert beneficial influences on the nervous and immune systems, while also being a precursor to oestrogen and testosterone.

The more extensive tests will also include oestrogen metabolites (e.g. 4- and 16-hydroxyestrone, which become elevated when liver function is compromised. These hormonal disturbances can be effectively balanced with herbs, nutritional supplements and dietary changes.

Liver Function Profile

The liver detoxification process consists of 2 phases. Phase I is where a substance or toxin is neutralised or converted to intermediate molecules. Phase II involves different detoxification pathways to help eradicate or excrete the molecules.

The intermediate molecules are often more toxic, so if your phase I pathway is working too fast, or your phase II pathway is not working adequately, they may hang around and cause more damage (e.g. cancer).

This Functional Liver Detoxification Profile (FLDP) challenges the liver’s phase I and phase II detoxification capacity, with low doses of caffeine, aspirin and paracetamol. Saliva and urine specimens are collected at timed intervals and analysed for metabolites of the three compounds to determine the efficiency of the liver in their conversion and clearance from the body.

Liver insufficiency may result in food allergies, multiple chemical sensitivities, chronic fatigue syndrome, leaky gut syndrome, hormonal imbalance (e.g. PMS and menopausal symptoms), recurrent infection, headaches, migraines, muscle pain for weakness, digestive discomfort, nausea, bloating and intolerance to caffeine, alcohol or fatty foods.

Gastrointestinal Function Test

This test assesses the integrity of the gastrointestinal mucosa. When the lining of the gastrointestinal tract (small and large intestine) is damaged, it can result in leaky gut syndrome, where gaps appear in the lining and allow undigested food, toxins, microbes, waste and other tiny molecules to ‘leak’ through the gut wall and into the blood stream.

This can then result in various illnesses including food allergy/sensitivity, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Chrohn’s disease, arthritis, coeliac disease and skin conditions (e.g. eczema, psoriasis and acne).

Chronic stress, alcohol, caffeine, spices, medicines, environmental chemicals and digestive enzyme deficiency can affect the integrity of the gut wall lining.

Mineral and Heavy Metal Analysis

This test can be performed with the analysis of a urine or hair sample. It is used to determine your body’s nutrient and heavy metal levels. They include, but are not limited to:

Nutrients/Minerals: calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, selenium, potassium and chromium.

Toxic Heavy Metals: lead, mercury, aluminum, tin and arsenic.

A mineral imbalance and heavy metal toxicity can cause infertility, fatigue, migraines, learning difficulties, hyperactivity, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and many more symptoms and conditions.

Thyroid Profile

A thyroid can become over or underactive and result in hypothyroidism (underactive) or hyperthyroidism (overactive). Underactive thyroid symptoms include: decreased body temperature causing cold intolerance, fatigue, a reduced metabolism causing weight gain or the inability to lose weight, constipation, poor memory, loss of libido, recurrent infections, brittle nails and dry skin. Overactive thyroid symptoms include: increased body temperature causing heat intolerance, accelerated metabolism causing weight loss, increased appetite, nervousness, irritability, weakness, hyperactivity, sweating, diarrhoea, goiter, loss of libido and heart palpitations.

The body has a tendency to maintain internal stability… balance. This is known as homeostasis. The hypothalamus and pituitary gland regulate the thyroid gland, as well as the adrenal glands, ovaries and testes. These organs secrete reproductive and stress hormones, so when unbalanced can cause a cascade of symptoms. This hormonal imbalance can also contribute to a neurotransmitter imbalance, which can create mental health issues like anxiety or depression.

As you can see, when there is an imbalance of one gland, there can often be an imbalance of many other systems within the body. These conditions often go undiagnosed because it was once thought that a person’s TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) levels were the best way to investigate a thyroid condition. However, it is now evident that a person can have normal TSH levels, while having altered T3 or T4 levels or thyroid autoantibodies.

Chemical or Inhalant Sensitivity

Inhalants: you can be tested for allergies and intolerances toward certain grasses, weeds, animals, cockroaches, dust, moulds and trees.

Chemical Sensitivity: this is often a sign that your liver is working insufficiently. A liver function test can determine the best treatment to enhance your liver’s detoxification process.

Blood Type Testing

Over the thousands of years of human evolution, four types of blood have developed. These apparently parallel the migrations and processes of civilisation in human society. The original human blood type of our hunter-gatherer ancestors, known as the ‘O’ type can be traced back over 40,000 years. The next type to appear was the ‘A’ type, which seems to accompany the rise of agricultural societies in the Middle East around 20,000 years ago. Five to ten thousand years later, in the Himalayan highlands, the nomadic herders arose, and with them appears the ‘B’ type. Finally, only 1000 years ago, the ‘AB’ type became evident as a result of the racial mixing that occurred with the many invasions of that time.

Blood Pressure

Most people with high blood pressure have no symptoms, so this very simple and painless test may help save your life. If you are stressed, have a diet that is high in saturated fat or a family predisposition to cardiovascular disease, then this test is an essential part of your holistic health program.

Naturopathic Diagnostic Technique

Zinc Tally Test: A quick taste test is performed to measure your zinc status. This mineral is a component of your stomach acid, so it is very obviously important for protein digestion. It is also a key nutrient to enhance immunity, reduce inflammation and is a catalyst in many enzyme reactions within the body. It is commonly depleted during times of stress.

PH (Acid/Alkaline Balance) Test: This urinary test is used to help determine your acidic or alkalinity of fluids. An imbalance of these may result in stress, bone density, pain,, vaginal infections (e.g. Candida albicans), muscle mass disturbances and hormonal imbalances.

Tongue and Nail Test: These quick, effective and non-invasive investigations have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayervedic Medicine for thousands of years. They can determine protein, vitamin, mineral and essential fatty acid deficiencies, while also indicating whether certain organs of the body are operating insufficiently. These tests are not used conclusively, however are combined with other findings throughout the consultation (e.g. patient history/questioning, iridology/iris analysis and pathology tests) to determine a diagnosis.

Good and Bad Fat Profile

Essential Fatty Acid Profile: Omega 3 Fatty Acids are commonly referred to as ‘good fats’ and play an important role in mental, heart, joint and eye health. They are also imperative for optimal brain development in babies and supports normal visual development in the foetus. This complete fatty acid profile includes a comprehensive report of your ‘good’ and ‘bad’ fats. These ‘good’ fats include omega 3, omega 6 and monounsaturated fatty acids, while the ‘bad’ fats include saturated and trans fatty acids.

Urine Testing

This examination of the urine is used to determine the general health of the body and specifically the urinary system, which comprises kidney function. It includes the measurement of pH and tests for leukocytes, nitrites, protein, glucose, ketones, blood, bilirubin and urobilinogen.

Urinalysis is useful to assess the individual’s acid-alkaline status, liver function and carbohydrate metabolism. This test can be particularly useful when screening for conditions such as diabetes, urinary tract infections, kidney disease, inflammation and bile duct obstructions.

Secretory IgA/IgC Testing

A deficiency of secretory IgA (sIgA) may contribute to elevated IgG antibody levels to food antigens, which cause food intolerances.

Secretory IgA is produced by activated B-cells in the mucosa, where it forms immune complexes with pathogens and allergens. This prevents them from binding to and penetrating the mucosa.

A lack of sIgA can cause leaky gut syndrome. This is where there is altered intestinal permeation and undigested food antigens enter the bloodstream, promoting immune complex formation and circulation.

Low levels may be found in stressed individuals or people with chronic infections or immune hypersensitivity, ulcerative colitis, a history of congenital rubella or Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections.

People who use anti-inflammatories, sulfasalazine, hydrantoin, cyclosporine, fenclofenac, sodium valproate and captopril can also induce an IgA deficiency.

Stress and Sleep Profile

Insufficient amounts of sleep can not only leave you feeling tired throughout the day, but can also deprive your body of undergoing repair and detoxification processes while you sleep.

Sleep and stress hormones can often become imbalanced, keeping you awake at night. A melatonin deficiency or cortisol excess can leave you wide awake, even when you’re exhausted. A simple saliva test can investigate if this is the case for you.

Gene Testing

This new and sophisticated technique is also known as DNA-based testing, which identifies changes in chromosomes, genes and/or proteins.

It can be used to test for genetic conditions or to help determine a person’s chance of developing or passing on a genetic disorder.

Iris Analysis

Naturopathic Principles

The Healing Power of Nature Vis Medicatrix Naturae: Naturopathic medicine recognizes the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself. Naturopaths work to remove the obstacles to cure and support the natural healing process.

Treat the Cause Tolle Causam: Naturopathic physicians look beyond the symptoms to identify, remove or treat the underlying cause of illness. They often take into consideration, their patient’s diet, lifestyle, habits and environment.

First Do No Harm Primum Non Nocere: Naturopathic physicians utilize the most natural, least invasive and least toxic therapies to avoid harming their patients.

Doctor as Teacher Docere: Naturopathic physicians educate their patients to empower them to achieve and maintain their own health.

Treat the Whole Person: Naturopathic physicians view the body as whole, so address their patient’s physical, environmental, emotional, mental, genetic, social and spiritual aspects throughout their treatment.

Prevention: Naturopathic physicians believe that ‘Prevention is Better than Cure’. Therefore, they focus on the overall health of their client to promote wellness and prevent illness.
